Dr. David Suzuki to Keynote Inaugural Canadian Sustainable Operations Summit
(NEW YORK, NY June 18) – Dr. David Suzuki, award-winning scientist, environmentalist, broadcaster and Chair of the David Suzuki Foundation, will deliver the keynote address for the inaugural Sustainable Operations Summit Canada, October 28 - 30, 2007 at the White Oaks Resort & Spa in Niagara on the Lake, Ontario. The invitation-only summit will bring together senior leadership from Canada's largest corporations, cities & provinces, universities, government agencies, school boards and healthcare organizations and promote initiatives that benefit both the environment and the bottom line.
The executive summit is the Canadian version of the US Sustainable Operations Summit recently held in Albuquerque, NM. Keynoted by Al Gore, former Vice President of the United States and author of An Inconvenient Truth, and Mayor Martin Chavez of Albuquerque, NM, the 2006 World Leadership Gold Award recipient for sustainable water management planning, the summit received national attention and attracted leaders from organizations including Google, Apple, General Electric, Harvard University, City of New York, Kaiser Permanente, McDonald's, the State of Wisconsin and many more.
"Dr. Suzuki was the first person that came to mind when we decided to create this summit for Canada and we are honored that he has accepted our invitation" says Michael P. Owens, director of production for CraigMichaels. "As a recognized world leader in sustainable ecology and as one who tirelessly works to find ways for society to live in balance with nature, Dr. Suzuki is the ideal person to set the tone for this summit"
The case study based conference program will address critical initiatives such as green building, renewable energy utilization, waste reduction and various other measures that can increase operational efficiencies by incorporating "green thinking" and contribute to a reduction in our environmental footprint.
CraigMichaels itself has made a strong commitment to reducing its impact on the environment. "As a company whose business results in the travel and congregation of thousands of people each year, we realize that we can be part of the solution," says Owens. "From our procurement strategy, to offsetting our carbon emissions and eliminating handouts in conference sessions, we are continually identifying and evaluating our procedures to improve our environmental performance."
